History of Chauhan (Rajputs)

Chauhan, Chouhan or Chohan (Hindi: चौहान),  is a clan who ruled parts of northern India in the Middle Ages. The clan is famous for Prithviraj Chauhan, who defeated Mohammad Ghori in the First Battle of Tarain, Ghori was captured in this battle but his life was said to be spared by Prithviraj Chauhan. However, in another invasion, Ghori was able to defeat the Chauhan king in the second battle also fought in the plains of Tarain.According to some manuscripts of Prithviraj Raso, Ghori was captured and set free several times by Prithviraj Chauhan.Raso further goes to say that Prithviraj killed Gori by his shabdabhedi baan vidya. However, The historicity of Prithviraj Raso was proved unreliable by historical writers like Buhler, Morrison, GH Ojha and Munshi Devi

Introduction

All Chauhans in Haridwar are Rajputs Hindus migrated from Rajasthan and some are also following Sikhism. The Chauhan Rajputs have a dominant role in Haridwar district of Uttrakhand. Haridwar is also known as Chauhan Puri in local area. All Chauhans are among of 52 villages near Rajaji National Park. Kuldevi of Chauhan Rajputs is Maa Shakumhra Devi in District Sahranpur. In month of Bhadrpad Chauhans go to worship Gogaji (JAHAR VEER GOGA PEER, Ancient great warrior ruler of CHAUHAN dynsnty GOGAJI DEV CHAUHAN) in Rajasthan. Chauhans of haridwar having big role in Land and farming in District. Mostly Chauhans of Haridwar having gotras Vats,Gahadwal,Budhwal, Kachwaha,Bhaliyan, Gahlaut, Bhadauriya,Samiyan , Kashyap,Jagharan and solanki gotra etc. and their marriage system is on the basis of the gautra as well as in other rajput clans. All Chauhans are from Agnivansha.

Chauhans are well known for their bravery in the Region.All Chauhans are living in the region from late of 17th Century and was divided in several groups later on these groups are formed as villages and people are started to involve in farming. Villages of Chauhans are known here in terms Khadar,Bhood and pachha. The villages area near bhadrabad and between laksar to haridwar are known as Khadar, Villages near Dhanauri and bhagwanpur known as Bhood and villages near shakumbhra devi known as pachha. By efforts of Dr. Pyarelal Chauhan Samrat Pritviraj Chauhan Degree College come in existence in bhadrabad providing national level education with different courses.

(He is a retired primary school head master and one of the elder-est person of this chauhan puri. and follower of Arya Samaj principles. In Education he is M.A in History

8. Mr.Narender Chauhan: He is the former union leader of BHEL Ranipur, Haridwar and associated with many workers union welfare societies.
